Holla, thanks for stopping by! Here’s a bit about me and the blog.
My name is Emily, I’m 18 and living in the great city of Calgary, Alberta, Canada. I just graduated from homeschooling (hurrah!) and am taking this year off to work and travel. In February I’m hoping to go to Israel and Europe for about three months, and go to post secondary next fall taking, well how about that? English!
So right now I wait tables at Moxies in attempts to make enough money to hop over the pond. When I’m not working I read (obviously), write, listen to music, hang with friends and spend ridiculous amounts of time on the interwebs reading blogs like Protein Wisdom, Hot Air and Instapundit.
If you haven’t guessed by the general selection of books I read, I’m a Christian and a proud member of the vast right wing conspiracy. I like guns, beer and sandwiches as much as I like books, coffee and Josh Groban. I try to keep it balanced and keep it real.
I can’t promise I have a set schedule of posting…sometimes I post once a week and sometimes this place will go a month without being updated. But I believe in quality over quantity, so I hope whenever I do post you will enjoy it. From Chaucer to Clancy, Dante to Dekker, I think you’ll see a bit of everything here. Basically I view this place as more of an online notebook than a review blog. I hate sounding like a book snob; I don’t try to pretend I’m some super-learned scholar who has any sort of authority on what’s good or bad. I’ll offer my opinion, but you can take it or leave it.
And if you’re wondering why my blog is named after a beverage… well, you either have not had gin and tonic or you have and do not like it – otherwise you would see it as a perfectly fitting name.
So have a drink! Stay awhile, return soon.

I was just doing a random search of Mark Steyn because I read his articles and have read America Alone and I stumbled upon your site and read some of your book reviews and I’m impressed. I suppose more than anything it’s because most people around our age (I’m 20) don’t really read all that much, much less care enough about the content of the book to discuss it with people publicly to incite dialogue. As a Texan, it’s only natural that I’ve never been to Canada (we’re kind of content with Texas) and we’re pretty indifferent toward Canada but the whole issue with Steyn and the, “hate speech” got me riled up and I must admit that I began to lose faith in Canada. If there are more like you up there, it’s certainly hopeful. Hoorah for conservative Canadians! And much less professionally; hoorah for good-looking girls who love to read! Lord knows they’re a rarety.
Thank you very much! =) It’s true, things are looking very bleak up in Canada – but there are some good people up here trying to change things. I’m optimistic cause I have to be, but we still have a ways to go. Hurrah for Mark Steyn fighting the good fight!
Hey Emily, Cute blog… I liked reading about your Mythology run down… Adding you to my blogroll and look forward to reading more; your categories are totally my thing
I am giving a speech about CS Lewis this week, and so I ran a google image search to get some pictures of Lewis for a powerpoint. I came across your site. I have to say I love your blog! I’ve been reading it non-stop since discovery. Its great to see that there are others out there who admire Lewis as much as myself. You once said that Lewis can stack more in once sentence than you could in a paragraph, I feel the same way!
I’m also going to have to agree with Chris up there. I’m in the same age group (19-20) and it is almost shameful how few people in our age group read. I think of it as a lost art that desperately needs to be rediscovered in our society.
Keep up the great work!
